Introduction to Permaculture

Unveil the Wisdom of Permaculture Principles

“Sitting at our back doorsteps, all we need to live a good life lies about us. Sun, wind, people, buildings, stones, sea, birds and plants surround us. Cooperation with all these things brings harmony, opposition to them brings disaster and chaos.”
― Bill Mollison, Introduction to Permaculture

What is Permaculture?

The term permaculture combines “permanent” and “agriculture” or “culture,” emphasizing long-term, regenerative practices rather than short-term exploitation.

The concept was developed in the late 1960s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren as an alternative to modern industrialized methods of agriculture.

The core ethics of permaculture revolve around caring for the Earth, caring for people, and fair resource distribution.

Permaculture applies a holistic approach to personal gardens, farms, or even larger-scale urban community projects.

Designing a permaculture garden involves placing plants, animals, and water systems in ways that maximize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. By encouraging collaboration with natural processes, permaculture promotes a way of living that is both sustainable and regenerative, offering a practical response to climate change and resource depletion.

Some words of encouragement

Don’t worry about being able to identify each of these plants. The world is full of botanists and horticulturists. All you have to do is design. You don’t have to be a botanist; you don’t have to be a bulldozer driver; you don’t have to be a fence builder; you don’t have to be an architect.

The exquisite sight, sound, and smell of wilderness is many times more powerful if it is earned through physical achievement, if it comes at the end of a long and fatiguing trip for which vigorous good health is necessary.
